Toastmaster of the day, Wendy McNaught put together a
cleverly themed meeting as it was all based on the rugby world cup.
The weekly
raffle prize even fitted this theme as it was a bag of black and white liquorice
allsorts. These were happily won by Craig but as he had difficulty finding his
ticket, others were lining up to move in on the prize.
Our guest, Catherine, was welcomed warmly by Carol and
Wendy.
Graeme gave an excellent educational about the upcoming
evaluation contest and as he said evaluations are the most important part of
Toastmaster’s learning as the feedback is so valuable. Also a major hint to
participants was to begin writing notes immediately the speaker
begins.
Carol took us on a journey with her speech as it entailed a
discussion between herself and Graeme. Graeme’s role was the rather disobedient
employee and Carol’s role was that of his boss. Graeme was more interested in
likening Carol to being like a bossy mother than actually wanting to do as he
was asked. This all lead to a very amusing role play and it was great to see
Carol asserting herself in a positive manner. It was her patience, consistency
and theory that there aren’t, “bad people, just bad behaviour” which lead to
Graeme finally agreeing to “try” to conform.
Jen gave Carol’s speech a very positive evaluation as she
explained the objectives and used the CRC method of evaluating very well. Jen
commended Carol on her use of clear visuals and the very calm way she handled
Graeme, in fact she “walked the talk”.
Craig led Table Topics with Jane speaking about tennis, Linda
the Melbourne Cup, Noel the All Blacks and Russell the haka. Very well done
everyone.
David as time keeper was very grand with his enthusiastic
body language as he used all black flags to accentuate his summary, cleverly
done!
Helen gave a short general evaluation as there was only one
evaluation to comment on. This consequently left enough time for Craig to ask
Ian to speak on another table topic(how could Steve Hansen improve from Toastmasters). Wendy then asked our visitor, Catherine, to
say a few words. Catherine gave a very positive review, thank you and please do
visit again. Very well run meeting, congrats to Wendy.
Best speech, Carol
Best table topic, Linda
Best evaluator, Jen
