"REMEMBER, REMEMBER the 5th NOVEMBER"

This was the email sent out the day prior to Pania Toastmaster's latest meeting by Toastmaster of the Day, David. He produced a clear a precise agenda for the day with the theme of Guy Fawkes being eagerly accepted by the members present. He was able to intertwine facts about Guy Fawkes in between presentations- most interesting and informative.

As Toastmaster, David also brought along the weekly raffle prize of some pale ales and not so pale ales,( David is a renown Home Brewer) the raffle was won by Barbara. David did run the meeting most professionally, congratulations.
Helen read the Mission Statement and our first speaker was Darryl- remember two r's in Darryl. The speech was entitled "Give Me Back My Name", a humorous speech enjoyed by all. The speech was serious at the beginning and made the audience sit up and listen, but built up to a climax as it gathered momentum. Darryl proved to us about how intelligent he was as a youngster (and presumably still is!)- how he studied the dictionary starting from A, and told us when he went to take his first overseas trip found his christian name spelt incorrectly on his birth certificate with only one R in Daryl. He changed his name by deed poll to Darryl with two 'R's. Oh! what a lot of trouble and expense to have his name changed- had to get a JP to witness the change and the cost $120. Some funny comments and stories in the speech, especially the ending about the two children's names, the girl catted Denise and the boy called De nephew. Great humour.

Barbara introduced and evaluated Darryl' presentation. A friendly introduction with some tittle tattle on Darryl, which we have come to expect with our introduction of speakers as we hold 50 minute meetings, which leaves little time for socialising. I am of the opinion that Darryl would have appreciated the feedback offered to him, especially the placing of the lectern. Barbara had most positive comments for Darryl.

Next up Carol shared with us a reading from Dr. Seuss. With a great introduction to the reading, she shared with us some tittle tattle about Dr Seuss (eg this was his pen name). She showed us a photo of him, he looked a tall intelligent man and advised that his works have been translated into 20 different languages. Carol said her family love the Dr Seuss stories and rhymes. She read the rhyme, in a clear voice, some tongue twisters there but well handled, and also shared with us the colourful illustrations of the rhymes as she weaved her way through the the book. I can understand why the children (and many adults) love the rhymes, and like the nonsense- learning while having fun (sounds just like Toastmasters!)

General Business was conducted and led by Toastmaster David assisted by Graeme.

Table Topics in keeping with the theme of Guy Fawkes was led by Linda and those that took part were;
Carol shared with us her favourite memory of Guy Fawkes.
Russell felt that Guy Fawkes had no relevance now.
Barbara spoke of Guy Fawkes and the Royal family.
Ian chattered away on corporal punishment !!
Graeme verballed that he was tickled pink!!
Jane expressed that she could not kill anyone. (pleased about that!)
Linda ran a very good session of Table Topics and had an excellent introduction and rounded the session of well. Well done Linda!

Helen evaluated Table Topics and gave a fantastic round up of the speakers taking part. Great listening skills- especially with the feedback offered.

General Evaluator, Wendy summarised the meeting with emphasis on the Evaluators and was assisted by Time Keeper Noel- great skills, listening and recording the times by all that took part. A most synchronised report.

Best Speech; Daryl (or is it Darryl?)
Best Table Topic; Carol
Best Evaluator; Barbara

Thanks to Wendy for this report and don't forget the Evaluation Contest on 12th November.
