Two excellent presentations at Pania Toastmaster's meeting this week on Thursday 25th June overseen by the Toastmaster of the day (standing in for an absent member) Graeme who had a well defined program arranged and linked the items smoothly.
The first speaker was Linda with Project Five from the Competent Communicator manual "Your body speaks" with a speech entitled "The Rhythm of Life". An excellent choice of material for the assignment as Linda told us about her love of dance and actually demonstrated an Iranian dance for us, her body certainly spoke to us! Tremendous use of gestures right through the assignment and they were so natural and smooth as well. She also had excellent word usage as an aside to her main objective about using gestures. Well done Linda, halfway through the CC Manual already!
In addition to being Toastmaster, Graeme evaluated Linda's presentation and rightly so gave her many commendations for her efforts, he was also able to suggest a couple of areas where perhaps she could improve next time, more pronounced facial expressions and not to make the pauses too long as to appear to have lost her way.
Next up was Jen with an Advanced Assignment "Uplift the Spirit". Jen certainly did this in her presentation during which she suggested that we all need to do something good for somebody but not tell anyone, this plants a feeling of well being in the soul.Simple things will do, coin in an expired parking meter, helping an older person carry a heavy load to their car etc. She encouraged us all to try it that same day,but off course we cannot tell her about it or anyone else! This was another excellent presentation by Jen, who always seems to be able to come up with something a little different to keep our intense interest.
Helen (again a late replacement) evaluated Jen's presentation and it obviously touched a nerve with her so the message got through.Helen suggested that Jen maintain better eye contact with the audience when speaking and this will enhance her message even more.
Have you done something good for someone yet-and not told anybody?
Noel ran the Table Topics session and had a collection of 'old' pennies (not from heaven!) and the speakers had to speak about the year on the penny. Wendy (1952) Ian (1956) Craig (1939) and Barbara (1891). An interesting session and a novel idea by Noel to which all the speakers were able to respond in good fashion. Well done to all who took part.
Barbara evaluated Table Topics and had commendations and suggestions for all the speakers (apart from herself-who she felt did very well!!)Craig (General Evaluator) later confirmed that she had in fact done very well and in fact won herself Evaluator of the day!
The Business session covered next week's program, Club Leadership Training to be on 24th July and next Executive meeting next Friday 5th July.
General Evaluator, Craig rounded of the program assisted by Timekeeper Ian, who kept everyone to time, with comments in the main for the evaluators and some brief comment for the speakers, who all utilised the tried and true formula of Commendation, recommendation, commendation and summary.
We do it all again next week when the Toastmaster is Ian, how about bringing along a guest or two?
Best Table Topics; Craig
Best Evaluator; Barbara
Best Speaker; Linda
