This was the title of Barbara's speech today at Pania Toastmaster's weekly meeting presided over by Toastmaster of the Day Cheryl. This was all about husband ,Steve's business from 1978 until April of this year.
Barbara's presentation was the 'Let's get Personal' project from the Story Telling advanced manual and was fascinating ,highlighting how versatile one needed to be in order to survive. The work ranged from servicing shipping containers, to heat pumps, diversifying to white ware and even including mobility scooters. It sure held my attention from beginning to end and what a stand out conclusion!
Helen introduced Barbara, not only covering the speech objectives but also something about Barbara herself- most interesting. Helen then provided a most encouraging evaluation in which she highlighted the many strengths that Barbara has such as her presentation skills, sense of humour and attention to detail.
Carol presented her first speech from the 'Interpersonal Communication' manual, which was titled "Conversing with Ease". What a promising start this was to this Manual, Carol had obviously done her homework. I enjoyed how Carol highlighted one aspect of this assignment which was made into a role play. Linda and Carol were meeting one another at a bus stop for the very first time- the conversation that followed was so natural and culminated with the audience being asked to comment on what they had just seen, congratulations Carol on a most interesting session, I for one look forward to the other four assignments in this Manual.
Wendy introduced and evaluated Carol and gave her a very friendly introduction which included what Carol was setting out to achieve as we do not have many members working on this particular Manual. Wendy's evaluation showed great understanding on all the speech components and three excellent suggestions for improvement were given i.e. utilise pause, slow down and use a pointer so as to maintain eye contact with the audience. Commendations were given regarding the use of open ended questions, visual aids, speech structure and presentation skills.
As mentioned Cheryl was the Toastmaster of the day and kept the meeting moving along nicely. She did well to have everything concluded on time especially with the speeches being 8 & 14 minutes. Well done Cheryl!
