Laurel was our
Toastmaster on Thursday 20 October and what a fantastic job she did of organising
and running the meeting with a Hawke’s Bay theme. She was very professional in
every way and although the meeting started 2 minutes late, from then on it ran
to schedule, finishing spot on 1.00pm.
We had another full house
with 19 members in attendance.
This meeting was very
special as we had two Icebreaker speeches from two of our newest members. Both
Sandy and Stephanie gave outstanding presentations. They each took on their own
individual way of introducing themselves to the audience, and we learned some
very personal information about both of them. Thank you Sandy and Stephanie for
sharing some special parts of your life with us in such an effective
way.
Sandy did her
presentation without notes and no hesitation. Sandy told us how (when she was
still a high school student) she organised and booked herself on an exchange
student trip to Canada. Coming from Germany and knowing no one, this was a huge
culture shock for her, but gave her a global awareness and also gave her the
independence she needed to become a confident and well organised person. A
lovely story thank you Sandy – and we certainly look forward to more speeches
from you in the future.
Sandy was introduced and
evaluated by Helen. Helen offered some great commendations to Sandy and gave
her some heart-warming feedback. She was also able to offer her some
constructive feedback. Helen also made mention of some of the unique phrases
Sandy used throughout her speech to enhance her story.
Stephanie’s Icebreaker
speech was straight from the heart – telling us the type of person she is, how
she thinks, how she feels, who she is to many people, her outlook on life and
her particular personality. She spoke calmly, forthrightly, and her speech rate
never faulted. She was calm and easy to listen to, and she has a very strong
and determined way of delivering a message. She had some very interesting
props, but in the heat of the moment omitted to use them – maybe next time
Stephanie. Well done on a deep and meaningful speech, touched with a phrase of
Te Reo.
Stephanie was introduced
and evaluated by Jen . Her introduction was informative and told us a
little bit about Stephanie. Her evaluation was excellent and offered Stephanie
good feedback on her speech. She made particular note of the closing of her
speech, which was very moving. A very positive evaluation from
Jen.
Both speeches were so
outstanding that Sandy and Stephanie shared the prize of best speaker. Well
done to you both and also to Helen and Jen for two very polished evaluations.
General Business was
conducted by Helen and Craig. Helen reminded us that it is TM week next week
and any old Toastmasters magazines would be greatly received by her. Next
week’s programme was organised by Craig, with Russell being our
Chairperson.
Carol was our Table
Topics Master, and from start to finish this session was presented perfectly! A
lovely greeting to all, a good explanation about what the topics would be, and
Carol had studied the programme well so as to choose
people
who did not have a duty
on the programme. She read the topic out first, then chose the person to
respond, finished off the session with a nice closing, and did everything by the
book – well done Carol.
Our Table Topic
contestants entertained us for the next 5 minutes, with Petrice winning the
trophy for best table topic.
Linda was our Table
Topics evaluator and she offered good feedback to all participants along with
commendations for their fine efforts.
Rebecca did a great job
of keeping time for the meeting, this being her first time as Time Keeper – well
done Rebecca. Barbara was the General Evaluator and gave feedback on all aspects
of the meeting, in particular praise to the Chairperson for using good meeting
protocol throughout.
Thank you everyone for a
most enjoyable meeting. Another great way to spend a Thursday lunch time.
Look forward to seeing
you all again next week.
