Another hot day.
Thank goodness for air
conditioning while we found out all about 'Living Wills'.
The Toastmaster , Barbara , opened the meeting and welcomed members and visitor Ian (from
Hastings Club). He gave as good a rendition of the Mission Statement as heard
for a long time.
Jen gave a presentation on “Living Wills” using the
“written Speech” project..There was much of interest to learn from this talk.
Her advice was that it is essential if you wanted to make sure your wishes are
respected. She also mentioned in passing a useful treatment, buscopan, should
you be emmitting a death rattle. That's your reporter's word of the day. Graeme evaluated the speech and suggested Jen use pauses more emphatically.
Buscopan could do it?
Our esteemed President Helen ,gave a presentation on the Speech Contest coming up next week. She
covered the various activities involved and the judging sheet. She summarised
and took questions from the floor. Graeme then encouraged us all to enter. Hey
Graeme,we've only got 50 minutes!
Noel conducted Table
Topics based on clippings from recent newspapers. Linda Elliott spoke on old
houses, Wendy talked about the Earthquake, Ian thought Brendon
McCallum had made a significant contribution to cricket and Mike launched
into song about healthy food. Carol had to evaluate them and although
generally positive pointed out that no one greeted the chair or audience.
In the business session the
raffle was drawn by our visitor and won by Jen. Members should note that it is
intended to discontinue the raffle from the end of March. The plan is that the
subs will rise by $10 instead. This will work out less costly for members and
save them having to find a prize, find coins and take time running the
raffle.
David was General
Evaluator and Ian, Time Keeper.
