'WAITANGI DAY with PETER RABBIT"

Waitangi Day with Peter Rabbit.
These were the subjects of Table Topics, conducted by Linda and a bard reading from Helen.
There were 12 members at the meeting, plus a guest, Anna who is a Toastmaster and has recently moved to Napier from Auckland.


The meeting was very well organised and run by Darryl, with a nicely formatted, easy to read programme. Darryl also interspersed the proceedings with interesting facts, such as officially forbidden and permitted children's names. Lucifer and No. 6 Bus Shelter spring to mind.

Helen did a reading from an old and rather fragile book The Tales of Peter Rabbit. The reading had lots of vocal variety and some one hand gestures. Suggestion from the General Evauator that the book pages be photocopied onto larger A4 pages and supported by stiff backing card. This would produce a more robust reading source and reduce the need to turn pages as often. It would also free up at least one hand for gestures.

Table Topics were conducted by Linda and the theme was appropriately, Waitangi Day. The topics were very ably answered by Jen, Noel, Anna, David and Graeme. Everyone generally kept to the topic theme, except Jen, who preferred to talk about cockroaches.
Anna spoke about her Hawkes Bay family history and although she has moved from north of the Bombays, she has a rich family history here in the Bay. Anna also won the award for the the best table topic.
Table Topics were evaluated by Wendy, who was obviously listening to what the speakers had to say and offered a number of comments. Suggestion from the General Evaluator: Make more specific commendations and recommendations, to help the speakers understand what was done well and what could be worked on, in the the opinion of the evaluator.

Craig did an excellent education session on Evaluation, with input from the audience and lots of supporting material.

Another Interesting and fun filled meeting at Pania Toastmasters Club.
