These were the titles of the speeches at Pania Toastmaster's meeting on Thursday 21st May, the meeting was overseen by Toastmaster of the day Carol and the standard right through was extremely high.
Linda was our first speaker and she spoke on Travel Safety and gave a fascinating (and sometimes scary) account on what to look out for when travelling overseas, her experiences in a place called 'Zahedan' (near the Pakistan Border-need we say more!) emphasised how careful one must be.
Aspects such as carrying money, facing Police checks, keeping with other people at all times and also being followed by a man on a motorbike.(she was alone at the time!). Luckily Linda had the presence of mind to call out "chekarmikonid" 3 or 4 times and the man went away. apparently Linda was saying "what do you want, what do you want?". An excellent speech with great word pictures.
David evaluated Linda's speech which was Project 4 'Work with Words' and he gave her praise for aspects such as clarity of voice, use of language and vocal variety. He also suggested that use of a map and and a little more eye contact would have further enhanced the presentation. Thanks David.
Darryl was the next speaker and he chose Project 5 from the Humorously Speaking advanced manual, objectives of which were to use exaggeration and body language to enhance his message.He selected 3 aspects (as a 5, 10 and 14 year old), well presented,very believable and to a high standard. The imagery was profound ranging from leaping off a huge mound of dirt on a bike, filling a 44 gallon drum with water (and testing the depth with his head!) and a leap of faith from his bedroom window!
Laurence evaluated the speech and gave Darryl positive feedback regarding facial expression, body language and use of humour. He suggested more exaggeration and gave a very good example. Thanks Laurence.
Graeme was the Table Topics Master and he asked participants to choose a card (on the back of which was a word such as 'painter' 'builder' etc. Wendy chose 'Optician' and was asked to be 'hesitant;
Noel chose 'Doctor' and was asked to be 'grumpy';Barbara chose 'builder' and was asked to talk 'fast';
Linda 'shopkeeper' and was asked to use a 'soft voice':
