This was the title given to one of the two Bards presented at Thursday's meeting of Pania Toastmasters. Mike was the presenter under the guidance of Toastmaster of the day Laurence, who presented an enlightening programme in that his theme was all about the dangers of "electricity", the agenda presented 'sparked' plenty of interest with delightful pictures on the theme and some 'current' points of interest.Well done Laurence, also for keeping the programme to time.
"The rhyme of the ancient mariner" written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, demonstrated Mike's liking for this particular assignment from the Interpretive Reading manual,Most of us know that Mike is a particularly reserved character!, while today we had the 'other side', what enthusiasm, what a voice, what rhythm! Mike loved it so much that he went right past the allotted time and bell not once but several times!! A great presentation , do remember you saying you only had one more page to go!!
Ian evaluated Mike giving him a good balance of praise and suggestions for improvement,
The second Bard, from the same Manual was presented by Barbara, she has written many wonderful stories in poetic terms and today's presentation was up to her usual high standard. The story line had excellent structure and contained imagery, use of the unexpected, punctuated with lovely touches of humour. Great effort Barbara, we are lucky to have people of your talent in our Club.
Graeme evaluated Barbara, he highlighted many of the standout features such as clarity of voice, how cleverly the bard was written and Barbara's ability to bring a story to life. He suggested that she try to make a little more eye contact with the audience.
Grammarian, Carol introduced her word of the day "ridiculously", which took a wee while for someone to use but once under way it never stopped.
Carol was also the Table Topics Master and provided a challenge for those taking part by giving the ending of each topic and asking Barbara,Darryl and Noel; to provide the opening and the body. What an interesting response, great idea Carol, just grateful to have not been asked!
general business covered areas such as the Evaluation Contest at the next meeting and the new programme which takes the Club through to December, Carol told us about the Club's 30th birthday celebrations to be held on 25th November at the Napier RSA, and our guest Jeanette was welcomed and we look froward to her joining up at the next meeting. Great to have a new member.
David gave a detailed Timekeeper's report and Noel our General Evaluator gave excellent feedback to all those taking part both with praise and suggestions for improvement. Thank you for making everyone aware on how we can do better and the skills that people already have.
A fun meeting, lots of enthusiasm, come along and see for yourself.
