EVALUATION CONTEST

Pania's meeting today involved the Evaluation Contest to get our contestant for the Area Contest in March 2015. Six members entered and justified their entries with excellent evaluations of a speech, given by our visiting Hasting's member Helen, entitled "Jailtime" Great speech Helen and well evaluated.

The six contestants were Barbara,Carol, Mike,Cheryl , Darryl and Jen. As mentioned all achieved very worthwhile evaluations, with one unfortunately going overtime. They had many commendations for Helen and most had some very useful suggestions for improvement. There has to be a winner and today it was Barbara (the third contest she has won this year-and we have only had three!) with Darryl 2nd place and Carol 3rd. A hearty congratulations to all the evaluators for entering and hopefully we will all gain something from today's evaluations. I am sure the newer members will.

Regarding Helen's speech, this was a very well presented assignment and extremely interesting as well. Helen told us about the 15 years she spent in jail (no she was not an inmate but a Prison Officer) and some of the experiences that she had, great humour included and excellent gestures, after this speech I do not think I want to spend time in jail (well even before it I was not keen) particularly if Helen was in charge of my workgang (but its OK because she left the prison service in 2007). Well done Helen and many thanks for sharing the experience with us and being our Test speaker.
The Contest was Chaired by Craig and the Judges were Craig, Graeme and surprise, surprise Helen. David assisted with the Timekeeping and everyone else apart from Ian (Sgt@arms) and Jeanette, our newest member who joined today, all took part.

A very big welcome to Jeanette , who was inducted today, and we look forward to her participation in the forward programme and her growth as a Toastmaster.

In the business session Jen was presented with a "Spirit of Success" certificate for completing an Advanced Manual and  Barbara received her certificate for winning the Humorous Contest a couple of meetings back. Craig briefly reported on the Division D Conference last Sunday in Rotorua advising that our Area representative Peter from Hastings was placed second in the Humorous Contest. Next week's programme was covered with Graeme being Toastmaster.

That's all this week, be back at our meeting on 23rd October, and do not miss it just because it is before the l  o  n  g  weekend!
