Pania
Toastmasters Meeting Held on 31st October 2019
Happiness
of the heart when your retirement fund is full.
Graeme who
was like a kid with a new toy honked the hooter, to get everyone’s attention so
he could introduce Michael as the Toastmaster of the day. This was the first
time Michael had been toastmaster and what a great job he did. He smoothly took
in changes of speaking times and organised hecklers for Patrick’s speech. The
meeting ran efficiently and to time. Apologies were received and carried. Pedro
read the Mission Statement confidently.
Laurel
introduced our two guests Brian and Steven, Area R3Director and Divisional R Director respectively.
Mehran
introduced and evaluated Carol's speech “Happy for No Reason – Pillars of the
Heart”. This was Mehran first evaluation and what a great job he did. In the
introduction he gave us some personal information about Carol and told us of
Carol’s objectives. Carol the “happiness architect” explained that the biggest
key to happiness is kindness, generosity, forgiveness and love. Love Heals. She
rounded off her speech with a very good quote which gave us something to think
about. Mehran evaluated Carol’s speech giving many commendations and a couple
of recommendations. He noted that Carol meet her objectives. A very enjoyable
speech and constructive evaluation.
Sandy
introduced and evaluated Patrick speech “Money Till You Drop”. Sandy explained
to us that she would not be evaluating Patrick's 10 to 15 minute speech but
evaluating how he dealt with the hecklers in the crowd. The objectives were to
practise strategies of dealing with crowd disruption. A very informative speech
and a little bit of a wake-up-call for those of us getting close to receiving
our bonus from the government for reaching 65. Sandy evaluated Patrick in her
normal positive, warm way. She congratulated Patrick on how well he dealt with
the hecklers. How calm he was while using his strategies to deal with the
interruptions. With skills like that he could easily be our next Prime
Minister.
Table Topics
Master Graeme was next up. He chose Steven as his first TT
speaker.
“Would
you like to be a Racing Car Driver”. Steven quickly got into the subject
telling us how speed worries him and makes him scared. Drawing on family stories
of driving lessons and speed. He rounded off by saying, being a racing car
driver was not for him.
“Would
you like to be an Aeroplane Pilot” was Benita’s subject. Benita got
into this subject with enthusiasm and told us a story about her family and how
her Uncle was a WW1 pilot and how he loved to take her flying and terrify her.
A great story about family dynamics.
“Would
you like to be a Lion Tamer” was Brian's subject. Brian told a
humorous speech (lucky hes not in the competition on Friday night) about how he
loves animals and would Tame A Lion with his heart.
Laurel gave
a very thorough evaluation of the table topics with good commendations and
recommendations for each person.
TK Paula
very efficiently read out the times and General Evaluator Lou, congratulated
Mehran and Michael on doing a great job with their first time Roles. She also
positively evaluated Sandy and Laurel for their, informative and enthusiastic
evaluations.
Michael
wound up the meeting on time and thanked us for our contribution to the
meeting.
