Meeting 23rd November:
Numbers have dwindled as the festive season draws
closer, but meetings remain as lively and informative as always. Carol, our
Toastmaster of the day, created a colourful salute to summer on the meeting
programme, which was accompanied by her warm, enthusiastic welcome.
The first speaker of the day was Noel, and he was ably
introduced by Darryl. In his talk ‘Your Body Speaks’ he focused on the joys of
skiing and the modern technology that continues to make the sport fun and
accessible to all levels of expertise. Valuable advice from a veteran skier of
40 years on the slope. Bringing in boots, skis and helmet, etc added
considerably to the demonstration.
‘Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks,’ was an apt title for
David’s speech that demonstrated the use of a TV screen to provide visual
support. The club has struggled for some time to find ways to add visual impact
to speeches and using the screen was easy to see and use with the enthusiastic
instructions offered.
Mike stepped up to produce an interesting Table Topics
with a supply of random words for his ‘victims’ to incorporate into a 2 minute
talk. Kerry with her theme of ‘A day at the beach’ was able to use – ladder,
elephant, hamburger, vegetarian and whip into a lively tale. Marc also took up
the challenge with Bungee jumping’ and used the words – soap, otter, telephone,
bubble and giraffe to good effect. Only two participants but great effort from
both.
An excellent meeting, well run by Carol and enjoyed by
all.
