Kerry was our Toastmaster , she had mailed us all the previous night to say
how much she was looking forward to seeing us , so the metaphoric welcome mat
had already been rolled out .
There were two changes to the programme, we started five minutes sooner
than previously and table topics were two minutes long , in accordance with what
would be required at competition level.
It being Maori language week , Stephanie read the mission statement in Te
Reo Maori!!! .
We were treated to two interesting speeches , and a host of fascinating
table topics . What a meeting !
Noel our first speaker took us during our 55 minutes to Cuba and to spreading jungles, up
rivers and into the minds and curious other parts of the human intellect detailed from a recent visit to that country.(stated that he wanted to get there before MacDonalds!!)
Helen introduced and evaluated Noel, A great evaluation , only
recommendation was that perhaps previous wobbles need not be commented on
.
Carol introduced Patrick , our next speaker who tackled a very broad subject put forward by Author Simon Sinek from his book "Start with Why". Broadly you should look at why do something, rather than the how and what will result. Carol evaluated this speech , no easy task as
there was much to unpack in that speech . However , it was well done , and
feedback was positively given , only recommendation was that during her
evaluation Carol mostly looked at Patrick ,
Sandy was our table topics presenter , and it was table topics with a twist
! Sandy presented her topics well ,she had prepared slips of paper for each
speaker and was bright and enthusiastic . The speakers were given two different parties (i.e. 110 Bald Eagles v. 279 Magpies) and had to tell us which one won and why!! Marc, Carol and Craig were the lucky recipients of questions!
It was our first time with two minute table topics so the task was harder,
but the result was worth it , we will all enjoy the new challenge .All our
speakers did very well.
Russell did not have very much time to get his evaluations prepared , but
he did with a good result , he kept the ambience going , was positive and
thorough .
Anna whipped through her comprehensive time keepers report . Thank you Anna in assisting the General Evaluator, Jen, who had time for a fuller report than we often have.
Kerry reminded us all that there is no ration on smiles and that we must go
off into this beautiful day and make someone else day ………..fair call her
delightful demeanour had just uplifted all of us .
Best Speaker : Noel

Best table topic : Craig
