What a great meeting at Pania on Thursday 10th September when we held our annual Table Topics Contest and we had nine participants! In this contest speakers all have the same subject which on this occasion was "If you were granted one wish , what would it be and why?". Contestants draw for speaking order and once that happens all but the first contestant leaves the room, out of earshot!
In speaking order Jane in answering the question "was wanting to make the world better in which to live and gave good examples to support her wish"
Russell "wanted enough money so as to enjoy some of things that he has yet to do.Unfortunately time did not allow us to learn what those were"
Cheryl "wanted to be a mother again and learn from the mistakes she made first time around.Gave her thoughts with great sincerity."
Jen "wanted to be nine years old all over again, excellent word pictures along with lots of humour."
Mike "wanted to be reinvented again.he obviously felt he had missed out on many opportunities and expressed himself with great gusto."
Craig "wanted to drive a trotter.Gave a very good account of what it would be like, so has obviously thought about it for sometime".
Linda "wanted a great big garden, in which everything GREW, the passion that she had for this topic came through very strongly along with excellent word pictures."
Darryl "wanted to do something about some of the big issues facing the world and gave a very well reasoned response to support his ideas".
Barbara "wanted to overcome her fear of flying which has prevented her visiting family and friends as often as she would like.Sincerity came through strongly".
What a wonderful contest which must have been quite a challenge for the 3 judges, Helen, Wendy and Chris(from Napier Club).
Thanks to them and our timekeepers David & Ian and particularly to Graeme our Chairman for the day.
Oh! I suppose you may want to know the results?
1st PLACE; LINDA
2nd PLACE; BARBARA
3rd PLACE; MIKE
Linda will now go on to represent the Club at the Area finals on Friday 25th September, come along and support her and Barbara, who is our contestant in the Humorous Speech Contest.
Thanks to Graeme for this report.
