"TIME TRAVELLER'S WIFE"

This was the intriguing title that was associated with Darryl's presentation at Pania Toasmaster's meeting on 25th September under the control of the Toastmaster of the day, Mike.
Darryl was undertaking Project Three from the Interpretive Reading Manual, which was a monodrama from "The Time Traveller's Wife"

In what was a particularly challenging assignment, where Darryl was required to not only assume character roles , but also present it without looking at the audience. What a wonderful topic Darryl chose, so meaningful and thought provoking, it really held us spell bound! He chose to us a soft , somewhat subdue voice for the wife and a stronger tone for her husband, add to that a well measured pace, use of pause, body language( in both movement and us of hands and arms) and when I looked around the room everyone was captivated. Great work Darryl, we really appreciated the obvious effort made to bring this story to life.(it is also the only assignment that requires the speaker not to look at the audience and in fact that requirement goes against every thing we learn right from when we first join Toastmasters)

Ian gave an excellent introduction and evaluation for the presentation and suggested greater emphasis on the two voices and maybe using movement from one point to another so we could determine who was actually talking, he did however give Darryl resounding praise for his outstanding effort.

Our second speaker was Barbara who we were fortunate in having her repeat her "So Powerful" speech heard recently and in preparation for the Area Council contest the next day. This is a well crafted, very humorous storyline which helped is helped by Barbara's undoubted presentation abilities. We wish her well in the Humorous Speech and Table Topic's contest tomorrow.

Graeme only had time for one Table Topic and two people Mike & Cheryl were asked to act out a supposed neighbour 'dispute' where one had had their garage door spray painted another colour and goes across to accuse the neighbour.Mike finds Cheryl washing her hands, which were covered in the same paint that was on his garage door. What a response! 2.5 minutes later they were still going strong! An excellent effort , almost as if they were enjoying themselves.

Graeme gave his General Evaluation of the meeting and gave praise for the high standard given by all those taking part, he also noted the effort made by everyone to explain what was happening so our guest , Jeanette, could understand everything. Barbara gave her Timekeeper's report which demonstrated how well she had been listening.

Mike, as Toastmaster, did a marvellous job, he gave people a clear concise programme and kept the meeting flowing along nicely. I liked how he acknoweldged the efforts made by members and congratulate him for finishing on time- thanks Mike.

Great meeting, most enjoyable, why don't you come along and see for yourself?
