Another in the long run of great Pania Toastmaster's meetings held today where 12 members and two guests (Diana & Simon from America) enjoyed a excellent programme with a "feline" theme well arranged and run by Toastmaster Jan.
Yes, Cats, were the subject of the day and Jan interspersed the items on the programme with some 'catichisms' !!! witty comments about cats ending up with a catalogue of 'cat sayings' from catacombs to cataracts, catamarans to catchments and its was all very catching with fortunately no catastrophes.
The programme got underway with a speech from our newest member Isaac (his second in two weeks!), you will see the heading "Cats getting Crossfit" , well Isaac told us all about Crossfit training in Speech two from the CC manual "Organise Your Speech". A very interesting concept , which apparently is expanding rapidly with in NZ. The three main components of Crossfit training are1. Exercise (Isaac does about 1 hour everyday) 2. Community around you (being supportive) and 3. Dietary . (eat more meat and fewer grains). It was presented in a casual manner but well structured and interesting, I particularly like the way that Isaac was able to relate some of the components of Crossfit to Toastmasters. Well done Isaac.
Isaac's Speech was introduced and Evaluated by Noel who was able to commend him on his presentation and give him some suggestions for improvement.
Viv followed up next with Table Topics (naturally on a "cat" theme) Viv had several bags with a cat in each (not alive!!) and the speakers selected, had to feel the shape in the bag, without looking at it, and relate a story about the Cat they thought may be in the bag. (She reminded members that you do not need to tell the truth in Table Topics!) At the end they could 'let the cat out of the bag'!
Cheryl, had a cold cat that lived in Hawaii (she has just been there!),Graeme spoke about the neighbours cat, 'Puss', that seems to think it also lives at his place, Darryl related a tail about a couple of years he spent in South America with a cat named 'Scraggly' and Ian (peeked a look at his cat) and still got it wrong! Well done to all who took part and the session was well evaluated by Sue McM, who commended every speaker and was able to make a suggestion for improvement to all but Graeme, consequently Best Table Topic went to Graeme.
Craig reminded members that the discounted Sub of $75 was due today (or it will be $90) but gave another 3 days grace until 23rd Sept.Area Council Meeting tomorrow at Wesley Lounge ,Hastings Street, Hastings (opposite Opera House) 7.15pm for Table Topics Contest followed by Humorous Contest, we are represented by Barbara-GET ALONG AND SUPPORT HER. Isaac was inducted into the Club and a presentation was made to Viv, who after 6 years as a very valued member, is moving on. Thanks Viv for all your work for the Club and the great entertaining speeches you have shared with us.
Barbara wound up the meeting with a very full and comprehensive General Evaluation and selected Isaac as the Best Speaker and Sue McM , the Best Evaluator.
See you all next week, when Jen is The Toastmasters, meanwhile have a few catnaps!
Craig also almost broke into song as he read "The Railway Cat" from T S Eliot's book, and upon which the show was based. Just as well!
