'A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ....!"

.....today at Pania Toastmasters. We staged our Humorous Speech contest and enjoyed two highly entertaining speeches.

Jen donned an apron, and showed us, literally, how to make marshmallow shortcake, using a recipe from the 1959 edition of Edmonds Cookbook. This included trying, in vain, to make marshmallow using a fork! Seems the cook book 'forgot' to instruct cooks to use a beater, not a fork!  Well done, Jen, with "Come For Cake".
Barbara had several visual aids to her speech: a chicken  (not real), eggs (real), dressing gown, and husband's crocs. Yes, this all came together in, "Take the Long Way Home", when Barbara needed to rescue her three chickens from the neighbours, luring them back to the "Hilton" where they lived, her route being on a busy arterial road during peak hour traffic, dressed in aforesaid dressing gown and crocs! The story had a very happy ending for the (grounded for ever) chickens, if not for Barbara's bank account!
Barbara's speech was adjudged the winner on the day.

We were also privileged to hear an Icebreaker speech from our newest member, Isaac Kearse. He chose the title "Turning Points", important times of change in his life. We heard lots of personal information and recollection, enabling us to get to know him a little better. Evaluator Jan was impressed that Isaac used no notes and spoke within the time limits, with a very clear and unhesitating delivery.  Well done, Isaac.

Barbara was presented with the Table Topics Trophy and certificate, by Toastmaster Graeme.
He led the business session, dealt with next week's programme.
We were also reminded about the Area Council meeting on 20th September, with next stage of Table Topics and Humorous Contests, to be held in Wesley Lounge, Hastings.
Also that subs are due for payment before 20th September, to claim the discounted price.
See  you all next week, and the others that didn't make it today.
