DAD AND THE DUCK

Hello Everyone.
Darryl presented a speech today with this intriguing title. “ It was a speech,” said Evaluator, Graeme Valentine, “designed to illustrate vocal variety.” It certainly did this, with much quacking and water ( not literally) flying around.  I wonder if anyone else almost missed the punchline?? Graeme had several suggestions for Darryl for another time, as well as lots of commendations for a speech with a difference.
Toastmaster Wendy welcomed eleven (eventually) members to the meeting today.

Jan gave two Bard readings, from pieces which appealed to her. And others, it appears.

Pip led out table topics session for the first time today, with topics centred around New Zealand’ flora and fauna.

Cheryl was asked to talk about her life as a native snail, with a name she couldn’t pronounce. Never mind, she enjoyed her life, deep in the west green forest away from snail bait of city gardens.

Darryl talked about being a huia, an extinct bird, with prized feathers, found on a sixpence. Very convincing as her is now extinct!

Mike was a  beautiful, strong and old kahikatea tree, tallest in the forest.  He did not enjoy sheep and dairy cattle loose in the forest who nibbled his
bark toes. Brenda was a very convincing and positive tui, loving her life of freedom, food and singing for everyone. Congratulations, Pip.

Jan tried to be bigger, stronger and more beautiful than the kahikatea, but at least made more beautiful furniture than the kahikatea. Barbara became a North Island Kiwi, shy and retiring who didn’t like to be picked up by people- beautiful and prized fauna. Jen evaluated Table Topics  (with some humour) and awarded Brenda the Best, for her positive attitude to being a tui. Jen found suggestions and commendations for most of  the speakers, not easy when they are presented fast and ‘furiously.’ Ian kept control of the meeting as timekeeper, again not an easy task today, with much happening quickly.

Mike was general evaluator and congratulated Wendy on her imaginative programme, and control of the meeting. He also was not afraid to tell us not to interrupt a speaker either! It is easy to become too relaxed sometimes, so it is good to be reminded.

Mike chose Graeme as Best Evaluator and Darryl as Best Speaker.

The meeting closed on time.  Another entertaining and learning meeting for everyone.  See you next week.

Keep warm.
