Paula was our very efficient Toastmaster at Pania's meeting on 4th April and ran a very well oiled program, with excellent 'between speaker' comments to keep interest high.
First speaker up was Craig, introduced by Patrick. Craig was giving a Level Two Speech from the Pathway "Leadership Development" entitled "Let Me Guide You" about the Toastmaster's mentoring program. He utilised 2/3 occasions in his life where he has had a mentor including work and Toastmaster situations and reinforced the benefits of mentoring to all parties concerned, The Mentor, The Protegee and the Club. Everyone in the Club should have a Mentor, even longer term members and it is a very important component of the Toastmaster's learning experience.
Patrick commended Craig on his presentation and was able to offer him some worthwhile suggestions for improvement, showing that even long term members can still improve.
Julie was the next speaker and she had a very interesting and entertaining presentation regarding the shoulds or should-nots of getting a tattoo. Julie is a newer member and this was only her second speech, but she showed that she has an exceptional ability to entertain and interest an audience with this unusual topic. As to the outcome, well that is personal opinion, but once there -there is no going back!! (and it seems it's OK as long as it is not for one of your children!!).
Lou evaluated Julie's speech and was able to offer many well deserved commendations for her and also a couple of suggestions she may like to consider for next time-the objectives for Julie's next speech are to build on the suggestions that Lou has given her, mainly handclasping and slowing down her speech rate slightly.
Carol presented the Table Topics session and utilised the "Star Column" from a recent newspaper for members to talk about. Mike started the ball rolling with a rocking rendition of what he is going to improve on (when he gets older!!). You heard here first!!, Israel then told us about eating cake at his daughter's birthday party, not sure what the 'star sign' said but it was well presented and entertaining. Sahar entertained for a couple minutes about putting right a wrong and how to tackle it, well done to all the speakers on somwhat long topics and therefore difficult to remember.
During the Business Session two new members Israel and Sahar were inducted into the Club and given Introduction packs to the Pathways process. We look forward to there continued involvement and Ice Breaker speeches to come.
The General Evaluator, Laurel summed the meeting up with comments on all speakers and evaluators, from which we can all take note and improve, she was assisted by the Timekeeper, Anna and we finished on time!
Lets all support President, Marc when he goes to Dannevirke on Saturday 13th to compete in the Division R finals of the Table Topics and Humorous Contests, if not there in body I am sure you will be there in spirit.
See you all again Thursday 11th April 12.05pm.
