David opened our meeting on time and told us we could guess
the theme of the meeting by referencing the slogan at the bottom of our
programme…. “That’s One Small Step for Man…..”
Jane read our Mission Statement and Russell told us our word
of the day was QUALM. Obviously from that point on nobody had any qualms or
queries with using that great word in their speeches.
Darryl introduced Anna
and gave an outline of the objectives. Anna then advised we were now all her
sales force! And what a great sales force we were. She spoke very clearly and
gave us a great insight into a new initiative for schools to use to allow
children to learn to speak clearly in their everyday interactions with others.
Anna used great word pictures like this new initiative would help “lift the
words off the page” for primary school age children. Laurel was her test case
Principal and Anna managed to overcome any concerns Laurel, as a Principal, would
have before closing the deal by confirming the number of packs she would need
for her school. Anna completed her speech by advising us “may the force be with
you”! Darryl provided great feedback to Anna in the form of referencing the
word “opportunity” rather than “objections” when following up her
prospects.
Mike introduced Marc and advised us that Marcus was actually
known as Marc and would continue to be known as that! Objectives were covered
and Marc proceeded to tell us about how he was the “scum of the earth” due to
being a car salesman for several years in Christchurch. Marc covered his Ice
Breaker speech with tid-bits from his toastmasters club in Christchurch, how he
was a keen soccer player and still is and how he loves to volunteer his time on
various clubs including scout master and children’s soccer. Having only moved
to Napier in the last six months he is enjoying the weather and getting involved
again in a new community. We all agreed Marc was definitely not the “scum of
the earth” but rather could be considering “the mouth of the
south”!
Craig introduced Table Topics and the best Dream Jobs were
presented to those who took part. Barbara was first up and told us how she
loved being a grave digger. She especially liked to sing in angelic tones as
she happily used her digger. She also told us she loves people be they above or
below the ground so would really love being a grave digger. Emma told us street
cleaning was her favourite job because she is a clean freak anyway and has now
decided it’s her life mission to clean up the crap in the world one coffee cup
at a time! Jane told us she doesn’t sleep on the job when it comes to being a
Supreme Court judge so we can all rest easy with no qualms that the world's High
Court decisions will be well considered with Jane in charge.
Linda assessed the Table Topics session with gusto and
commended Craig on his choice of topic. Wendy’s time keepers report was very
accurate and well scripted and as always, full of great puns and references to
the meeting topics.Carol completed a well balanced General Evaluation.
Overall we had a fun meeting, went to the moon and back and
finished right on time. Well done!
