Pania Toastmasters Club weekly Thursday lunch time meeting
was opened by Toastmaster of the day, Darryl. He had put together a very
attractive autumn themed agenda and advised us in his usual humorous manner
that, “I’m the Toastmaster so I’m in charge!”.
Darryl then went on to introduce the visitors, Elise visiting
from the Palmerston North Club and Rosalyn. Darryl went on to ask Jen, who he
suggested was a special person, to read the mission statement.
Noel in his firm voice introduced Carol and spoke about her
personally as well as the two manuals she was working on. He detailed the speech
objectives and when he evaluated Carol’s speech he gave great examples of how
the objectives had been met. Noel provided very worthwhile feed back with his
commendations and recommendations and finished with an excellent
summary.
Carol’s speech was entitled, “Fearlessness, Friend or Foe?”
which she based on a recent family visit to the Gold Coast theme park. Her
examples of how she handled a scary ride had everyone really laughing,
especially at her noises and body language. Well done Carol, great speech to
develop for the humorous contest. Carol also told us in a more serious tone to;
manage fear, it has its place.
Jane was the second speaker and presented an educational
which counts towards her Toastmasters Gold Qualification. It was based on
“listening” so she divided the room in two and one member became the speaker,
one the listener and the others the observers. The speaker had to chat for 2
minutes about whether cannabis should be legal or not, the listener then had 1
minute to repeat what they heard and observers then commented on this. A
cleverly run educational and the point was aptly made....
LISTEN!!
Table Topics were organised by Wendy and speakers chose 4
words from a bag and then had to include these words in a 1 minute spontaneous
speech.
Jen’s words were, pot, fish, photo, beer. She cooked fish in
a pot of beer and took a photo
Lynda’s words were, lights, ingredients, lime, hairstyle. She
ended up with lime coloured hair
Graeme words were, blue, cold, cardigan, radio. He was
feeling blue and cold in his cardigan
Patricks words were, time, plants, dollars, winner. He had a
winning investment by making dollars from plants.
Wendy rounded off the session with her usual experienced
style. It was noted the use of 4 words was a challenge and everyone had done
very well.Helen gave an excellent Evaluation of the meeting assisted by the Timekeeper,David.
Darryl closed the meeting by asking both Elise and Rosalyn to
give feedback on the meeting. Rosalyn agreed she would join the club and this
sparked a warm round of applause. The club membership is now 21 members so this
qualifies the club to participate in the Distinguished Club
Awards.
