WELCOME TO 2016!

Today, Pania Toastmasters commenced their 2016 programme with an 'Impromptu' meeting arranged and chaired in very efficient style by Graeme. While this was called an 'impromptu' meeting major participants had been forewarned of their tasks, which made for an entertaining and extremely worthwhile meeting.

One guest attended the meeting, being a past member from some years ago, Brett, otherwise there was a good attendance  of members for the first meeting of the year on a very hot and sunny Hawkes Bay day. Great to see Mike back on a regular basis and also Jen, after her end of year travels and health setbacks.

The first speech was presented by Barbara and this was entitled "My Summer Holiday", Barbara gave a very well thought out and interesting account of 5 days in Taupo, with husband Steve, when not everything went to plan but in the end it was an excellent break, even if they traveled in a car that's warrant ran out in June 2015!!Excellent humour and very well presented and arranged, congratulations Barbara, you have still got it!
Wendy evaluated Barbara's speech and commended her on the many great aspects of her presentation.

Mike was next up with his 'impromptu' speech and this was entitled "2015". This was not a great year for Mike,(his 'annus horribilus' as he explained) however it is now behind him and he was able to share some of the dire things that occurred , like the passing of his Mother in England and the operation he required in October. This was presented in Mike's usual interesting manner and he prefaced the presentation with the facts that some details may disturb viewers (listeners) and that he was going to clasp his hands, wander around and even put his hand in his pocket, all of which he achieved extremely well!!! Well done Mike, 2016 must be a much better year.

Darryl introduced and evaluated Mike very efficiently , in his introduction he showed us  a picture of a "Mike Coombe" from his phone, how he has changed!During his evaluation he had much well deserved praise for Mike plus some very good recommendations, next time they will be presented in the 'third person"!

Helen, produced an excellent Table Topics section based on firsts,New Year resolutions, wishes etc.
Carol had 'wishing you could go and live in another town-where and why?' Melbourne!.David had to buy a new car for his mother-in-law, not an automatic (that did not work!) something with a 'square back' she is 94!. Not a Ford Focus (I personally want to know why not???) Brett, 'study for a degree this year' "storytelling was the answer but at what level? and Jen had to wish for making Pasta, turns out she bought a new stove prior to Xmas (cheaper than replacing the whole kitchen) but is was Italian and so was the operating manual, so it took some days to work out how to turn it on (however it makes pasta in seconds!!) Yeah Right!!!
Well done to Helen and all the speakers in Table Topics.

During General Business Darryl was presented with his "Advanced Communicator -Bronze", congratulations Darryl on this achievement, you continue to show excellent improvement and we look forward to some excellent "Story Telling!"
Linda presented the timekeepers report in a timely manner and Craig summed up the meeting as General Evaluator, it was an excellent first meeting, as they traditionally can be a bit slow getting under way in the New Year but not today.

Some good news is that Jeanette, past member who went to Canada last year, is apparently returning to the Bay and Pania Toastmasters and also we are very hopeful of Laurel (that phantom member to some of you!) joining us when she sells up in Auckland. On the down side Laurence, due to work shift times, is going to have to transfer to Napier Club, we will be sorry to see you go Laurence, but at least you will still be a Toastmaster!

Next meeting Thursday 28th, Toastmaster David, see you all there.
