This was the title of David's speech at Pania's meeting on 26th March, his objectives from one of the Advanced Manuals were to organise technical material into a concise presentation and tailor it to the audience's needs, interest and knowledge levels, what a challenge!
David not only showed, but also explained, the two items of kitchen equipment. Firstly a blender and secondly a food processor, he explained some of the components belonging to these items in an interesting and conversational style. The knowledge shown clearly indicated that he had done his homework, congratulations David.
Helen introduced and evaluated David in a positive and thoughtful manner, praise was given with regard to the systematic approach adopted by David and also the use of descriptive language use. Thanks Helen.
Carol was our second prepared speaker and her speech was titled "Thoughts are Things".The objectives of her assignment were to persuade us to her point of view using logic and emotion to support those views, this being Speech Assignment Nine from the Competent Communicator Manual. What a fascinating talk we had, Carol has studied this subject for some time and was able to bring out aspects of our every day thinking in a very interesting way. Her visuals were effective as were the references used and quotations also played a very important part in her presentation. She concluded by asking the audience to think about receiving a gift within the next 48 hours-watch this space (since the meeting we have had an executive meeting and NO gifts have appeared yet!!)
Jen evaluated Carol's presentation and gave praise on the quotes used and Carol's ability with regard to persuasion. Thanks Jen.
We had a lively session of Table Topics from Cheryl and also an excellent overview of the meeting from the General Evaluator Barbara.
The highlite for me was the the 'Convener" of the meeting a.k.a. as the Toastmaster of the day , Wendy who as usual produced a wonderful, colourful program with a cricket theme and carried this right through the very well run meeting, we had Scorers, Umpires, wicket keepers, bowlers, batsmen and even had a drinks break! Great effort Wendy (GO THE BLACK CAPS!)
Two guests attended, Christy and Bill and we hope they enjoyed the meeting-guests are always welcome to come along and see what we do.
Finally a very big thank you to Jeanette for her significant contribution to the Club in the far to short a time she has been with us(six speeches and two Test speeches for Evaluation Contests in 4/5 months!)Some lucky Club in Canada will have the benefit of her membership. Thanks for the Cake!
