Those were the names given to our two speeches at Pania's meeting on Thursday 10th April (Wahine Day 1967!) The first was all about "Beatrice's Goat" a reading from the StoryTelling Manual 'A Folk Tale' from Jen. While "Love Language" was presented by Carol from Project Two in the Competent Communicator Manual 'Organise Your Speech. The meeting ran well under the guidance of Toastmaster David.
Barbara introduced Jen giving a great balance on Jen's background as well as the Speech objectives. The book that Jen was reading from was superb, full of wonderful pictures and words to match. She showed the pictures in conjunction with giving the storyline which was all about what the gift of a goat meant to Beatrice, a young African girl. A lovely folk tale, told with lots of enthusiasm.
Barbara gave Jen a most encouraging Evaluation along with a suggestion for improvement. Well done Jen and well done Barbara!
Carol's speech was an excellent example, of an Organise Your Speech assignment and this was only Carol's second speech!Laurence evaluated Carol's speech and he not only gave a very good introduction but also a very well rounded Evaluation covering all the salient points. Pania was very fortunate to have two speeches of such high standard- well done Carol and Laurence. Carol actually put her speech into five categories "Words of affirmation" i.e. someone being proud of you " Act of service" i.e. giving up a seat on the bus, "Receiving gifts" i.e. from someone away from home, "Quality time" i.e. with best friend, and "Physical touch" i.e. a shake of the hand. All of these so relevant to 'Organising Your Speech' a great job Carol.
Mike handled Table Topics his theme " Other peoples shoes!", Wendy was asked "you are an 8 month old baby and you played with Prince George-tell us about it" Wendy responded well showing a tremendous range of vocabulary. Ian was next answering "being with Greenpeace and dealing with an oil rig" he cleverly evaded the question!!Graeme was asked to talk about "his penchant toward nudism" he was obviously glad to 'come out of the closet'.Jen was asked to" be the black box recorder on the Malaysian flight" and acted out the part extremely well.A good innovative Table Topics session, with plenty of laughs.
Darryl our General Evaluator not only covered his normal role but also that of Table Topics evaluator, he certainly took on everything asked of him with well reasoned comment while maintaining a high standard. Thanks for your efforts Darryl. Your contribution is appreciated.
Wendy gave her Timekeeper's report, thorough as always and as mentioned our Toastmaster, David did a great job, not only keeping the meeting "under control" but alos finished on time. He must be complimented on his attire-he certainly conveyed the impression of being in charge! nice suit, smart shirt and tie- Well done!
Best Speaker; Carol
Best Evaluator; Laurence
Best Table Topics; Jen.
Thanks Graeme for the report- sorry a bit late being posted this week, a death in the family sort of threw things out of kilter!
