"COMPUTE THE MUSIC OF THE NIGHT ON THE MOVE"

The Evolution of mobile computers and The Phantom of the Opera were the ingredients served up by our two speakers at Pania's meeting on 3rd October. Darryl (Toastmaster for the day) served up an excellent fare with some extremely interesting 'internet acronyms' to fill in between items.

The first speaker was Craig, who with an assignment "Persuade with Power" attempted to encourage us all to attend one of the final four sessions of the Phantom of The Opera currently being performed in an extremely professional manner by Napier Operatic Society. Craig gave us quotes from the show and persuaded us that this local show was every bit as good as that seen in London, Melbourne and Auckland. Craig set a record for the 11 members attending by only speaking for just under 5 minutes of the allotted 7.
Next up was something a little different from Isaac who, being a Techno whiz, was able to show us the rapid evolution over the past few years of mobile computers Laptops, I-pads, mobile phones and who knows what next! Your watch could be your phone, computer and even keep the time!!! Isaac was completing the 3rd Assignment "Get to the Point" and explained extremely well the progress made and the unlimited possibilities in the future, plus showing us the respective items and a mobile phone purchased that day for $24!!!
The speeches were evaluated by David and Ian respectively and both were able to give the speakers many commendations and some recommendations for them to work on in their next assignments. Craig used notes (again) and David felt there could have been more emotional appeal to the audience, while Ian suggested that Isaac work on a bolder opening for his presentation and speak a little louder, but did extremely well to cover the broad topic in 7 minutes.
Table Topics was run by Mike and the four speakers selected had to answer questions based around "The Arts" Jan, was asked if she was an artistic person and what talent would she like to possess , she told us she can make Muffins and scones and would like to be able to draw, putting down on paper what she can see in her mind. Sue McM had to critique a Colin Mccahon painting "12 hours of Daylight", not Sue's cup of tea is Colin Mccahon and as we know Sue is a very good artist in her own right, so who are we to argue. (apart from the dollar value of Mccahon's works!!)
Jen was asked if she wrote a book what would it be about, well Pictures of Africa was the answer including many children's shots. Darryl was asked if he was an actor who would he be, quite clearly we have a James Bond fan here, "shaken not stirred" not sure if it was the fancy gadgets, fast cars or fast women that appealed!
Noel evaluated Table Topics and commended Mike on his subjects and gave excellent feedback to the speakers based on three points 1. Content,2.Gestures and 3. Recommendations. Well done Noel and to all the speakers, the best of whom was chosen to be Sue.
Graeme wound up with a General Evaluation, which gave everyone some thoughts on their presentations, assisted by Wendy as stand-in Timekeeper.
General Business reminded us that The Division Conference is on 12th October in Rotorua and our very own Barbara will be representing this Area in the Table Topics Contest , we wish her all the very best and a favourable subject!

Best Speaker; Isaac
Best Evaluator; Noel
Best Table Topic; Sue McM

Ensure you are all at our meeting next week, Toastmaster is Wendy.
