What would you do with a chance..............

" Describe an occasion when you took the chance of a lifetime ".
This  was the question posed to contestants in today's Pania Table Topics Contest.

Contestants: Barbara, Jen & Darryl

Unfortunately we only had three contestants competing but they all spoke easily and well to the topic.
Barbara swallowed her fear of flying, and tall buildings, to fly to Brisbane, to see her daughter compete in a modelling contest. The highlight for Barbara was the chance for her family to be altogether in an apartment on the twenty-fourth floor, not spread over several floors with her on the forty-second! A real chance of a lifetime!

Jen has lived for some years in Africa, and told of the time when she and her three small boys were camping  and decided to walk along side the river to the Hippo Pool, to watch the hippos feed at dusk. Sure enough she wanted to get up close and personal (my words) to that huge open mouth, and take a photo. She could feel it's warm breath!  The boys ran away, and told her after that books say you should never go near hippos when they are feeding! She won't again!

Darryl's chance came one day in Whitcoulls, Wellington when he reached for a book, and his  hands met someone else's, reaching for the same book. Blonde, lipstick-ed and smiley faced, he fell in love there and then. A chance with a coffee (accepted), then dinner (accepted), and he took his chance and has never looked back.

Barbara was declared the winner, and will represent Pania Club in the Area D2 contest, on September 20th.

The general business of the meeting was dealt with, and with time to spare the opportunity was given
to the rest of the audience to answer the question.
We enjoyed the chance to hear about chances other people had taken, and even though it is not mandatory to tell the un-varnished truth in table topics, the stories seemed too genuine to be otherwise.  Well done everyone.  It was a brief meeting but everyone participated - one of the aims of Pania meetings.
