Graeme & Jen shared the Toastmaster role this meeting, with Jen as an apprentice - next time solo, Jen.
Laurence kicked off the speeches, with a Research Your Topic assignment from the Competent Communicator manual. He researched the topic of domestic violence, sharing statistics which were somewhat surprising, showing a gap in the public perception about who actually commits domestic violence. It was a topic which could easily have filled half and hour – Laurence used just over seven minutes.
Jane evaluated him, concisely, and to the point, and Ian (General Evaluator) awarded her the Best Evaluator trophy for the day. Viv shared her latest travel experiences with us, in a Your Body Speaks assignment, from her second time round of the CC manual. An ideal vehicle for this topic,
entitled “Enough Time”, Viv used all her experience to demonstrate the objectives, telling a humorous tale of travel woes – plus how important it is to allow enough time for whatever might happen when travelling overseas. The speech was evaluated by Jan.
Jan will be Toastmaster next week, in Brenda’s absence (she will be preparing for a training conversation with United States!). Duties were checked with participants. With Russell’s withdrawal,
our visitor, Cheryl Bruce, has agreed to present an Icebreaker speech as she intends joining in the New Year. Craig will evaluate her.
Brenda had a different idea for three Table Topic participants – a large newspaper article provided the topic with Brenda asking her own questions, relating to the article.
Sue McM talked about the eyes of politicians ( watch them!), Darryl tried to tell us something sensible about the Blacks Caps, and Wendy was in favour of closing ‘loopholes’
in the system which allows unscrupulous people to make money from honest citizens.
Ian awarded Sue the Best Table Topic.
Viv was awarded the Best Speech.
Thanks to Russell who was Timekeeper for the day.
We had to contend with a noisy motor mower outside the meeting room this meeting. It kept coming and going as he moved up and down the rows, worse than the large trucks
on the Parade. ! Don’t the lawns will need mowing again in the next two weeks!
A reminder about your Christmas gift for the HB Today Tree Appeal for 6th December. Talking about your gift ( 1 minute approx) will be the programme – juice and nibbles
and social time to follow.
See you all next week. Keep well.
Jan
