Hi to all Pania Members,
Yesterday we had our Evaluation Contest, and four contestants pitted their skills in evaluating a speech by Mike Coombe. There was an excellent turnout of members and Guests, with 13 members and four guests, these were visiting Judges David Grant (Napier Club) and Helen Wright (Hastings Club) together with Cheryl (3rd visit) and Lindy (2nd visit). Hopefully Cheryl and Lindy will be joining our membership in the near future which will take our numbers up to the magical 20!
Mike’s Speech (it was really a reading assignment from the Interpretive Reading Manual) was entitled “A conversation about Christmas” (appropriate for this time of the year) and was very well executed with lots of movement!!!
The Evaluators ,Barbara,Laurence, Jane & Russell all spoke well of Mike’s efforts and were able to give him some worthwhile recommendations. The reading involved a small boy questioning his Father (or maybe Grandfather) about the way Christmas used to be and why could it not be the same for him today?
In all contests there must be a winner and while all those that entered were winners in their own right for giving it a go, the overall winner and our representative at the next Area Council Day on 12th April next year (that is a Friday night) will be Barbara, with Laurence runner up. We know she will do the Club proud.
A brief Table Topics session was run by Toastmaster/Contest Chair Craig and Wendy,Darryl and Lindy had the opportunity to answer.
The business session included congratulations to our President Laurence, A. for competing so well in the District 72 Humorous Speech final last weekend in Hamilton (unfortunately Laurence was not placed with his “The State of Real Estate” speech- the overall standard was extremely high( as high as I can recall having seen many finals over the years) however Laurence presented the speech extremely well did well to reach the District level. and B. for having an article published in the Toastmaster Magazine this month, have you read it yet? if not, do so and find out all about movement on the stage. Excellent work Laurence.
The Club was represented in Hamilton by Laurence, Graeme, Jan & Craig.
Well that’s about it for this week, back to a ‘normal’ meeting next week, certainly hope to see you all there, Toastmaster is Jen.
Regards,
Craig
