Pania Toastmasters first meeting fro 2020 was held on 23rd January and a few diehards managed to bring themselves back to Toastmasters after the Christmas break and enjoy a lively and entertaining meeting.
We had a Education session on the two contests coming up (Evaluation & International Speech) by Craig and a most enjoyable Table Topics session for everyone present run by Lou.
This was followed by a shared lunch and we thank Peter for the pizzas, even though he could not make the meeting.
On 30th January we held our Evaluation Contest, which was contested by five members. Laurel chaired the contest and in addition to a visiting judge from Napier Club, Jane, two experienced members also acted as Judges.
The Test speech was presented by Karen (Napier Club) and was entitled 'How to Change Your Life in 12 weeks!' An excellent presentation well delivered and acted out by Karen, which gave the Evaluators something to work with, although attempting to find recommendations for Karen proved a little difficult for some.
The five contestants, Marc, Paula,Sandy, Pedro and Tamara all acquitted themselves well and special mention to Pedro, who was doing his very first evaluation!
As this was a Contest we had to have a winner and that was again this year (he won in 2019 as well) Marc, who now goes on to represent the Club at the Area finals on 28th February, second place went to Tamara, 3rd was Sandy and there was one disqualification due to going overtime.
Many thanks to all those involved, as these contests don't just happen!
NEXT WEEK IS WAITANGI DAY AND THERE WILL BE NO MEETING but the following week (13th February) we have the International Speech Contest, the winner of which could in theory finish up in Paris,France in August at the "World Championship of Public Speaking".
