"KNOWING WHO IS GOING TO CONFORM IN YOUR AUDIENCE"

Knowing who is going to conform in your audience!
Marc was the Toastmaster for the day, with a well-organized and run meeting infused with humour. Heather expertly read the mission statement and apologies were accepted.

Anna introduced Darryl , who gave an Education Session “Know Your Audience”. Anna explained that this was Darryl’s last assignment to complete an Advanced Communicator Silver  Award and how Darryl’s humour was never far away. This speech was 10 to 12 mins. Darryl spoke about how everyone has different ways of seeing things and as speakers we should get to know about our audience before speaking. What age, sex, occupation, education and political views they may have and for the speaker to compile their speech to target the audience.
Craig introduced Trish with a warm encouraging smile which I’m sure put Trish at ease immediately. He also explained to us that this was Trish’s second speech in the Pathway's Programme. It was to be on Innovative Planning  - any subject. Craig was to look for areas to improve to help Trish with her next speech. Trish’s speech was Titled “The Power of Conformity”.
This was a complex subject that Trish spoke on but she knew her topic well. Some audience participation was required. Trish spoke about the consequences of not conforming to the law but also being an individual and not necessarily conforming to society’s   ideas.
Craig’s evaluation was very positive and he also made some constructive recommendations for Trish to improve on for her next speech.
General business was conducted by Marc, Patrick and Graeme.
Table Topics was run by Paula with a theme of Childhood favorites:
Carol – Childhood author: Carol spoke about the “teenage” stories she used to read but couldn’t remember the author.
Heather – Childhood Superhero: Heather spoke about Wonder Women and how she had always been a favourite with her bullet repealing bracelets.
Patrick – Tell us how you were born to stand out: Patrick talked about standing out as a tall person. And how in Brazil he was especially tall as everyone there was quite short.
Graeme was the Table Topics Evaluator and in the normal Graeme style added lots of humour. He made some recommendations and many commendations. Thanking Paula for running an excellent Table topics.
Best Evaluator:  Craig
Best Speaker : Darryl
Best Table Topics Speaker: Heather
Another educational hour with interesting speakers and evaluators followed by a shared lunch for a catch up which we do every 5/6 weeks.
