Darryl was our Toastmasters of the day on Thursday 23rd June and he ran a very smooth and jovial programme. We had a full house with many members in attendance and one guest, Jan a former member and friend! It was lovely to see her again.
We had a very full and busy programme to get through with two wonderful speeches by two very competent speakers.
Our first speaker was Anna and she was introduced and evaluated by Mike, whose introduction was informative and told us a little bit about Anna. His evaluation was excellent and offered Anna good feedback on her speech. The speech grabbed us from the moment she started, with the title "The sexist present ever".Anna had a little parcel wrapped and we all tried to guess what it was-lingerie,chocolate etc .A great opening for her speech which certainly got the audience interested. Jen was the lucky person to open the parcel and there inside was jacket cover of a book-the sexist present ever for Anna, which had been given to her by a friend and was all about 5 previous 'world champion public speakers'.
The presentation was enjoyed by all and very inspiring with the well known phrase for contest speeches particularly coming through "TELL A STORY- MAKE A POINT!".Anna's body language was very good and enhanced the power of her presentation. She gave us all good advice on empowering ourselves when needed- a great speech- well done Anna!
Our second speaker was Laurel, who was introduced and evaluated by Noel, who informed us of Laurel's previous experience with Toastmasters, her successes and many different Executive roles she has held in Clubs, Area,Division and District (District Governor) over the years.
Laurel's speech was amazing. Her presentation style was very polished, her speaking voice easy to listen to. The presentation was about risk taking, people who take risk and then find themselves with terrible consequences, then look to blame someone else for their error!
The content of the speech was very informative and everyone will have learned something from it. Her message was clear- we make our own choices in life-if we take risks we must face the consequences.
Laurel asked how many people in the room had run an orange light? It was surprising to see that most people had at sometime. She pointed out to us there and then for the sake of a couple of seconds we put ourselves at great risk- not to mention others!
One of Laurel's great skills is her eye contact and how she uses it-she manages to draw everybody into her speech- well done Laurel!
Graeme delivered Table Topics in a clear and concise manner, explaining what he expected from the 'victims'.We only had time for three (much to the others disappointment!) due to the busy programme, but the three that we had were very good. David evaluated the three speakers in a light and humorous way.
Carol did a great job of keeping trime for the meeting and Barbara summed the meeting up well in as General Evaluator.
Another great way to spend Thursday lunchtime ,the programme was slick and quick and Darryl did a great job of keeping it to time.
Look forward to doing it all again next week, when Jane is the Toastmaster.
