The meeting was attended by 11 members, and chaired by Ian Levingston (who, by the way, read the Mission Statement at the opening of the meeting). We had 2 great speeches – Darryl Baxter doing Speech Number 3 Get to the Point, and Laurence Bacchus doing Speech Number 9 Persuade with Power.
The title of Darryl’s speech was ‘Four PM on an Idle Thursday’. Darryl gave us some great tips on setting up an emergency fund – something we should all think about doing. When his employment position became redundant recently he was pleased and relieved to know that he had set up an emergency fund for that very reason. Fortunately he got another job straight away and did not have to use it. Well done Darryl for the content of your speech – it was very interesting.
The title of Laurence’s speech was ‘The Nehradian Myth’, and that too was a very entertaining speech. It was interesting to know that a person’s body language, especially facial expressions, can indicate if they are not telling the truth. Laurence proved a point to us, that the spoken word is 100% of communication, and the pie graph that indicates the spoken word as being only 7% is simply a myth.
Jen had a great Table Topic session telling us it was 28 March and that everyone in the room was celebrating a birthday. Barbara, Viv, Cheryl and Russell each gave a one minute table topic. Well done Viv for having the best table topic of the day – how to sell a book on your birthday.
It was a fun and interesting meeting, summed up nicely by General Evaluator Russell Pickering.
A forward programme was given out by Graeame.
Barbara
